Planning & Zoning

The Department of Planning & Zoning is located in the basement of the Akeley Memorial Building – 67 Main Street. Department application submittals are accepted by visiting us in-person – please come to our office during normal business hours. Development applications are required to be complete with all requirements at the time of submittal. We cannot accept partial or incomplete applications. If you have questions on what constitutes a complete application, please call us at 253-6141 or use one of our application checklists.  

Stowe's Planning & Zoning Department provides a variety of services that include:

  • Reviewing and issuing zoning permits for compliance with the Stowe Zoning and Subdivision Regulations
  • Professional services for community planning & development, transportation planning, housing, land conservation, and historic preservation
  • Facilitating the development review process and guiding applicants in the permit process
  • Providing guidance on other local that may be needed for a project
  • Updates to the Town of Stowe Zoning Regulations and Town Plan
  • Providing staff assistance to the Development Review Board, Historic Preservation Commission, Planning Commission, and Conservation Commission
  • Assisting with parcel research regarding past development
  • Enforcing the Stowe Zoning and Subdivision Regulations
  • Coordinating 911 addressing

The Town of Stowe does not issue Certificate of Compliance letters.

The Town of Stowe adopted a short-term rental ordinance on February 29, 2024.
